Claude Second Brain for Coaches: Why Claude Starts From Zero

Every time you open a new chat, Claude starts from zero. It doesn't know your story. It doesn't know how you talk, who your dream client is or what you sell. So it guesses, and you get content that sounds like every other coach on Instagram.

A Claude second brain fixes that. It's a set of 10 files Claude reads before it writes a single word for your business. I call mine a coach brain, and this post shows you why Claude keeps starting over and how to stop it.

Why Claude starts from zero every time you open a chat

Think about the last time you asked Claude to write something for your business. Maybe it was a post, an email or a lead magnet. You typed what you wanted and hit enter.

What came back sounded fine. Just fine. It read like a line you've scrolled past a hundred times, something like "Transform your health today."

So you spent the next 30 minutes rewriting it so it sounded like you. Then the next day you opened a brand new chat and did the whole thing over again.

Claude itself is probably fine. The problem is that Claude has no idea who you are. A new chat has none of what you told it yesterday. It asks general questions, and then it guesses. When AI guesses, you get generic everything.

Why one long chat doesn't fix it

The obvious fix is to keep one chat open forever and keep feeding it. That breaks down fast.

A long chat loses context pretty quickly. Claude starts to hallucinate and make things up. It also racks up tokens the longer it runs.

So a new chat forgets you, and an old chat gets confused about you. Neither one is ideal, and neither one knows your story the way you'd tell it across a table.

What generic content costs a coaching business

Generic content costs you more than the 30 minutes you spend fixing it.

Generic content doesn't get leads. A post that could have come from any coach gives your dream client no reason to stop scrolling. She doesn't hear her own problem in it, and she doesn't hear you in it either.

This is where a lot of AI for coaches goes wrong. The tool has nothing to work from. If your content machine runs on guesses, every piece it makes starts out generic, and you're the one stuck cleaning it up.

You can feel the cost in your week. You open a chat to save time, and you end up rewriting it and starting over. The more you lean on it, the more behind you feel.

What a Claude second brain is

A Claude second brain is a folder of files that tells Claude who you are and how your business runs. Claude reads them first, every time, so it never has to guess.

Mine has 10 files, and they come in two parts. The first six are about you and your brand. The last four are about how your business runs.

Part one starts with CLAUDE.md. That's the command center Claude reads every single time you open a conversation. Then comes Coach.md, which holds your story. Tone.md is how you talk, including the words you always use and the words you'd never say. Avatar.md holds your ideal client and your offer in one file. Your Design System and Design.md hold your brand, so everything you make looks like it came from the same business.

Part two starts with Business.md, which holds the facts and legal lines every page needs. Links.md holds every link you send people to. Systems.md is how your business runs inside your CRM. Lead Magnets.md is a running log of every lead magnet you've built.

The four things a new chat never knows about you

A blank chat is missing four things every time. Your coach brain gives Claude all four before it writes.

The first is your story. Coach.md answers questions like how you ended up coaching and what you walked away from to build your business. It also asks what you believe about your niche that other coaches would push back on. That last one is gold, because your real opinions are what make your content sound like you.

The second is how you talk. Tone.md covers the words you always use and the words you'd never say. It also covers how you sound in a sales email compared to a quick check-in text to a client. Claude pulls those rules straight from real posts and emails you've already written.

The third is your dream client. Avatar.md answers who she is, what her Tuesday looks like and what she's quietly afraid of before she books a call. It also holds what she says in her own words when she describes being stuck. Claude can even search Reddit and reviews for the exact phrases people like her use.

The fourth is what you sell. Your offer sits right next to your client in Avatar.md. That covers what it costs, how it's delivered, who it's for and who it's not for. It also covers what it provides, in what time frame and without what headaches.

Once those answers live in files, you stop typing them into chat after chat. And never put a password or a login in any of these files.

How to set up your second brain so Claude stops starting over

The second brain setup is simpler than it sounds. Everything lives in one folder on my desktop called Coach Brain. I open Claude in that folder every time I work on my business. Because the files are right there, Claude reads them before it writes anything.

I prefer and highly recommend Claude Code for this, because it works right inside that folder and can update the files as you go.

The files also keep learning. When I correct Claude, it fixes the post and also rewrites the file that caused the mistake. So the same mistake doesn't come back. My coach brain gets a little smarter every week without me sitting down to update my files.

That's the difference between an AI second brain and a pile of notes. Claude reads your coach brain every time, and it gets better every time you use it.
