Lead Magnet Funnel for Coaches: The 5 Things Every Giveaway Needs

October 28, 2026

A free lead magnet on its own won't get you clients. It needs four more pieces around it before it turns a download into a booked call. Put all five together and you have a lead magnet funnel.

Every time I make a video, I give away something I could easily sell for $7 to $97. The price depends on the pain it kills, the insight it gives you or the system it makes better. And a lot of coaches build only the giveaway. Then they wonder why nobody books a call.

This post walks you through the five parts every giveaway needs and what each one does for your coaching business.

Why a free lead magnet on its own falls flat

Picture your best giveaway sitting in a Google Drive folder with a public link. Anyone can grab it. Nobody knows who grabbed it, and nobody hears from you again.

A giveaway needs three things to do its job. It needs instructions so your lead can actually use it. It needs follow-up, so she remembers who gave it to her. And it needs a gate around it.

That gate does two jobs. It protects you from bots and bad actors. It also builds your email list, so you own your traffic instead of renting it from Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.

That's why email list building sits at the center of your lead magnet funnel. Every name on your list is a lead you can reach without waiting on an app to show her your post.

The 5 parts of a lead magnet funnel

If I had to plan every step of this by hand, it would be a lot. So I break it into five parts. Each one hands the lead to the next.

Every giveaway needs 5 things: the research, the lead magnet, the moat (opt-in page, thank-you page and delivery), the tracking and 10 days of follow-up. All five run off skills and one coach brain, the 10 files Claude reads before it writes a single word.

1. The research

Before you build anything, you find out what people in your niche actually want to download. A lead magnet that nobody asked for gets ignored no matter how good it looks.

Good research starts with your ideal client. Who is she? What is she quietly afraid of before she books a call? What does she say in her own words when she describes being stuck? Her exact phrases tell you what to build and what to call it.

2. The lead magnet itself

This is the part every coach thinks of first. It's the thing she gets in exchange for her email.

Build it to kill one pain or give one clear insight. It should sound like you and point at the one person you're best at helping. If it reads like it could have come from any coach on Instagram, it won't pull her toward your offer.

3. The moat around it

The moat is three pieces. Your opt-in page, your thank-you page and the automated system that delivers the lead magnet.

The opt-in page is the gate. She gives you her name and email, and the page sends her to your thank-you page. Then your system delivers the giveaway to her inbox automatically.

Every one of those pages needs the right facts and the right links. That means your legal business name, the domain your funnels live on, your privacy page, your disclaimers and your terms. One wrong link here and a lead lands on a page that says "page not found."

4. The tracking

Every new lead should land on a tracking board or a pipeline. That board moves on its own as she downloads, opens your emails, checks out your offers or books a call.

So you know who grabbed your lead magnet and who booked. You don't have to guess who to talk to next.

5. Ten days of follow-up

I send 10 days of texts and emails after somebody grabs one of my lead magnets. That's the strategic follow-up.

This is the piece that moves her from "thanks for the free thing" to a booked call. Without it, your lead downloads, reads a page or two and forgets who gave it to her.

Why all five need to run off skills

Look at that list again. Research, the lead magnet, three pages and a delivery system, a pipeline and 10 days of messages. Doing all of that by hand for every single giveaway would eat your whole week.

So I run it off a set of skills. A skill is a set of instructions Claude uses to do one task the same way every time. I have hundreds of skills that run my business.

All of that has to run off those skills like a perfectly orchestrated fireworks show. It has to be smooth and repeatable for me, and the same goes for you. Every piece has to be dialed in to your voice, your offer, your ideal client and your business model every single time.

You can't do that without a brain behind the whole thing.

The coach brain behind your lead magnet funnel

A coach brain is 10 files Claude reads before it writes a single word for your business. It takes about 45 minutes to build. When it's in place, every part of your lead magnet funnel pulls from it.

Here's how the files line up with the five parts.

Your Avatar.md holds your ideal client and your offer in one file. Claude even searches Reddit and reviews for the exact phrases people like her use. That's your research.

Your Coach.md holds your story and what you believe about your niche. Your Tone.md holds how you talk, the words you always use and the words you'd never say. Those two make your lead magnet and your follow-up sound like you.

Your Business.md holds the facts every page needs, like your domain, privacy page and disclaimers. Your Links.md holds every link you send people to, checked and dated. Every button Claude builds pulls its link from that file, so no button ever goes to a dead page. Those two build your moat.

Your Systems.md holds how your business runs inside your CRM. That covers whether texting is turned on, which calendar people book on and what hours your automations are allowed to send. That's your tracking and your follow-up.

Your Lead Magnets.md is a running log of every lead magnet you've built, with its funnel, its tag and its follow-up name. So Claude never builds the same thing twice inside your CRM, and it always knows what's already working.

That's what I call a super system. Claude has three things to work from now. A brain that knows you and your business, a skill arsenal that knows how to do each job and a process file that tells it what order to do them in. With those three, Claude can work for hours without me.

How to start your own lead magnet funnel this week

Start with the giveaway you already have. Go down the five parts and check off the ones you have today.

Do you know what your ideal client wants to download, in her own words? Is your lead magnet behind an opt-in page with a thank-you page and automatic delivery? Does every new lead land on a pipeline? Does she get 10 days of follow-up?

Whatever you can't check off is your gap. A lot of coaches find they built one part out of five.

Then build your coach brain before you build anything else. I promised a lead magnet video, and I'm still going to show you how to build one soon. But your lead magnet will be 1,000 times better if you build it from your seasoned coach brain instead of from scratch.

Build the brain once, and every system you add after that gets better instead of more generic. Over 140 coaches run their business on Thrive Engine, and every system they run, from their daily content to their lead follow-up, runs from a coach brain like this one.
